Hassan is famous for its temple – Hasanamba. The temple will be opened only once in a year. On this day, thousands of devotees flock to this place to perform pooja and receive blessings of the goddess.
Shravanabelegola is located at a distance of 51 km southeast of Hassan. Shravanabelegola is home to the world’s tallest monolithic statue – Bahubali. During Mahamastakabhisheka, a religious ceremony held once in every 12 years, thousands of devotees arrive here to witness the 1000 year old statue being anointed with milk, ghee, curd, gold coins and saffron.
The charming hamlet of Belur, located 38 km from Hassan, is sprinkled with temples. A visit to Belur is not complete without a visit to the Chennakeshava Temple, it is said that it took 103 years to complete the temple and this perfection is reflected in every feature of it. The intricate sculptures within the temple reflect the professional finesse of the Hoysala architecture.
Belur is another paradise of temple lovers. Dotted with temples in every nook and corner, the city stands as a proud testimony of the rich past. The Hoysaleswara Temple, from the 12th century, is a must-to-visit place in Hassan. The walls of the temple are adorned with intricate sculptures of gods, goddesses, dancing girls, birds, animals and the like. However, you will observe that no two facets of the temple are the same. It is said that the temple, guarded by a Nandi Bull, was never completed, even with 86 years of labor.
