Konni Konni

A small charming hilly town idyllically sited in the Pathanamthitta district, Konni has carved a niche for itself from time immemorial and is renowned for its lush green land which is a haven for elephants. Known as the chirapunchi of Kerala owing to its blue green rain forest , the place is also famous for timber trade and is surrounded by clove and pepper plantations.

Very few have had the fortune of experiencing and delighting in the virgin beauty that Konni presents its visitors. The verdant reserve forests of Konni that stretch between the numerous Sahya mountains are a must visit during one’s tour of God’s own country.

Places To See

The Konni Elephant Training Centre:

If you are an animal lover and you like elephants, then this is the best place you could visit. Trainers at the camp tame baby elephants that are found wounded or roaming in the forest separated from their herd. Tourists can have a close look at the several elephants and can observe and comprehend a lot about their peculiar behavior, especially that of the baby elephants. Another attraction at the camp is the huge elephant cages built of wood, each of which houses 3-4 elephants.

Achankoil River:

The beautiful scenic Achankoil river and its tributaries with their plush green banks runs through Konni and watching the running waters is indeed a feast to the eyes.

Muringamnagalam Sreemahadevar Temple:

Situated at a few kilometers from Konni, this very traditional and 1000 year old temple by itself attracts hordes of tourists. Once, a property of the Pandalam royal family, the temple still holds the record of being the biggest Siva temple in Pathanamthitta district.

Kattathipara:

Also in close proximity to Konni is the particularly attractive Kattathipara. This striking array of gigantic rocks is prominent for its triple-echo phenomenon. The array of rocks portray the legend of a hunter and his mistress

Forest Temples:

Achankoil and Aluvamkudi are two ancient temples that are worth their visit.

Hectares of thick forests bounteous with wild animals has made Konni surface as another major tourist attraction for trekking and safaris. Tourists can enjoy a thrilling forest safari gaping at the diverse varieties of animals that shelter in these thick forests.

Trekkers can take pleasure in an adventurous trek uphill to behold an extraordinary view of the entire mountain range.
