The scheduled domestic and international flight arrivals and departures from Cochin Airport is functional as per the schedule. The first flight to land was Indigo 6E 667 from Ahmedabad to Cochin. The Indigo pilot praised CIAL for cleaning the airport in the wake of unprecedented floods. CIAL was temporary closed down on 14th August due to heavy floods in Kerala. The airport has recently won the Champion of Earth honour from United Nations. The airport won the award for operating fully with energy from solar panels rather than depending on electricity. Kochi airport is the first airport in the world that fully operates on solar power.
The solar panels in the airport were damaged due to heavy flood. The airport authority repaired all the panels and runway lights. The power storage capacity and generators that were damaged were repaired and is back to normal.
Now tourist can book their tickets to and fro from Cochin and plan their Kerala tour as per the schedule.
