Did Kerala tourism launch new tourism policy?

The Kerala tourism has always been considered the forerunner in India and has stood ahead in the competition gathering tourist from across the country and around the world. The Kerala state have announced a new tourism policy that focus on sustainable tourism initiatives that will form the major part of Kerala tourisms’ domestic campaign this year.

To ensure the accomplishment of an ambitious target of a 100% increase in arrival of foreign tourists and 50% in domestic tourists in five years, a tourism regulatory authority has been formed. This would help put a stop to any unhealthy practices and guarantee better intervention of the Tourism Department through scrutiny and a licensing system,” said Shri. Kadakampally Surendran, Honorable Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala.

The tourism in the state has seen impressive growth both in domestic as well as international tourist arrivals in 2016. The government said international arrivals to Kerala saw an increase of 6.25% over the previous year’s with 10,38,419 tourist arriving. The domestic arrivals to Kerala recorded an increase of 5.67% with 1, 31,72,535 tourist arriving to the state. The total tourism revenue of the state increased 11.12% compared to 2015.



Kerala tourism is conducting partnership meets in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Chandigarh, Jaipur, New Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Patna in the first quarter of this year to increase the domestic tourist footfalls.
