On Arrival check in to the Houseboat Set out on an enchanting overnight backwater cruise in traditionally decorated houseboats. Check in time is 01:00 PM and cruise starts with lunch. While cruising in these floating luxury-villas, let your eyes settle for the rare and the unusual - skim past Chinese fishing nets, bowed-down paddy fields, and local inhabitants engaged in making coir products, rustic homes, and ancient temples and swaying coconut groves. Food will be served onboard. Overnight stay in the houseboat.

ACTIVITIES ON BOARD SPICE ROUTES:

Local farmer’s house visit : exploratory tours into the villages that provide inimitable local experiences, and insights into the lives of people that live along the canals.

Toddy tapping : a favourite local brew, made from coconut flower’s sap, and fermented naturally. Witness the skill and precision with which the tapper scales coconut trees to tap the flowers sap.

Clamp deshelling : considered a delicacy, meat from deshelled clamps is cooked, after which the shells are sold to the cement industry, from which the local residents earn a living.

Weaving coconut leaves : coconut leaves are cut and weaved in a way that they appear stitched to one another. This is mainly done by native women in their homes during leisure hours. These weaves are used to thatch roofs of houses in and around the village.

Coconut de-husking : coconuts are the main ingredient in Kerala cuisine. The de-husking of these coconuts for everyday requirements is done manually. Watch how an expert de-husks piles of coconuts. The husk is then sold to the coir industry to produce coir mats.

Canoe ride : take a canoe ride through Bhajana Mada canal. This small canal leads into an even narrower waterway which allows you to explore uncharted regions of the backwaters. Experience a slice of life of people here who live on and cultivate land below sea level.

• Check in / Checkout time with the hotels are 1200 noon and overnight Houseboat (if provided with itinerary) is 1200 noon check in and 0900 hrs next day check out.
