The present day Bangalore City was founded by Kempe Gowda, a chieftain under the Vijayanagara Empire, in 1537 A.D. Kodaikanal, at a distance of 120 km from Madurai, lies on the southern crust of the Palani Hills. The town is centered-around the star shaped Kodai Lake spread over an area of sixty acres.
