Places To Visit In Kerala In March

Are you planning your Kerala tour during March? The summer season in Kerala starts in the month of March. As compared to many other parts of the country, the Kerala summer is not that hot and is bearable. In March the state also receives some rainfall and the humidity is high. Usually Holi falls in the month of March.



 

If you are planning your Kerala trip in March do make sure that you have not forgotten your sunscreen while packing your bag.

If you prefer not to venture out in the sun and experience the Kerala summer then you should head to the hills. Kerala is blessed with many evergreen hill stations, thanks to the Western Ghats which border the state, and you could find solace in one of these places. Even in March, the temperature will be cool and pleasant. There are also numerous tourism activities happening in these hill stations.


 

 

Among all these, Munnar is one among the most popular tourist places in Kerala. This exotic hill station is located at a height of 5,200ft above the sea level. It has got many scenic locales, you could take a stroll among the various tea plantations, spice gardens, trek to the glorious mountains, visit the Eravikulam national park, enjoy the majestic waterfalls etc..... Other places of interest include Mattupetty Dam, Eco-Point, Devikulam Lake, and Top Station.  There also many gurgling streams and rivulets.


 

 

Thekkady, also in Idukki district, is probably one of the best places in the country to observe wildlife. The Periyar Tiger Reserve and National Park is the major attraction of the place. The place is blessed with a wide variety of flora and fauna. You could take a cruise on the river and could watch herds of elephants and the majestic tigers in their natural habitat. Deers, boars, bisons and lion-tailed macaques are also a common sight in the reservoir area.
 

Vagamon is another tourist attraction you can consider visiting in March. Vagamon lies in the Idukki -Kottayam border area. Vagamon can be called the Scotland of Kerala. The climate is cool even for hot summer midday.  The place is beautiful with many spectacular views such as the pine forests, the meadows, forests and mountains that are covered in the mists, Mooppanpara etc. Like Munnar, Vagamon also has many lush tea and spice plantations.

Another district that is blessed with the hills, greenery and the cool temperature is Wayanad.  The district is located on the north-eastern side of Kerala and has many popular hill stations that are blessed with lush greenery, hills, valleys, waterfalls and many spice plantations. The district's location on the Western Ghats has given it an evergreen status. so even in the scorching summer, the climate is pleasant. Vythiri is the most famous of all the hill stations.

 

The Kabani River, which is a tributary of River Cauvery flows through Wayanad and its many tributaries help the district to own a distinct and rich water resource and fertile landscape. Not just the environment the air quality is also high in Wayanad.


 

 

Most famous tourist places in Kerala include Lakkidi, Pookot Lake, Meenmutty waterfalls, Neelimala, Chethalayam waterfall, Pakshipathalam, Banasura Sagar Dam (the largest earth dam in the country), Banasura Peak, Edakkal caves (from the Neolithic period) etc...
 

The southern part of Kerala also has many hill stations and the most famous of all is Ponmudi, which is located about 55 km from the Thiruvananthapuram city. It is a great place for trekking and sightseeing. There are also many tea gardens in this area. The lush forests, mist-laden valleys and mountains, winding rivulets and the cool climate are its major attractions. Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Echo Point and Deer Park, Meenmutty Falls (not to confuse with the one in Wayanad) are also major tourist attractions.
